Dr.-Ing. Christian Müller (head)

IMG_1619-k Senior Researcher Dr. Christian Müller is head of the automotive group and project manager  of CARMINA, SIM-TD, and various related industry projects. His research focus is user-adaptive multimodal HMI (Human-Machine Interface) with a special focus on speaker classification, which is seen as a source of information for non-intrusive user modeling. Application areas of his research are primarily automotive interfaces and telecommunication applications. From 2006 to 2008, he has been a visiting researcher at the International Computer Science Institute (ICSI) in Berkeley, California. Dr. Müller earned a Ph.D. in Computer Science at Saarland University in January 2006.

Dipl.-Inform. Michael Feld (researcher)

feldMichael Feld is working as a full-time researcher in the DFKI’s Automotive Group. His PhD topic is "A Speaker Classification Framework for Non-intrusive User Modeling on the Example of Personalized In-Car Services ". A major part of his work focuses on the topics of user modelling, in particular user adaptation and personalization, as well as speech-based classification. Further research interests include application architecturing, parallel programming and mobile devices. Michael joined DFKI in early 2005 as a student research assistant. After finishing his Diploma thesis in Computer Science at Saarland University on the topic of "Erzeugung von Sprecherklassifikationsmodulen für multiple Plattformen"

Dipl.-Inform. Sandro Castronovo (researcher)

Sandro CastronovoSandro Castronovo is working as a full member in the automotive group. His research is focussed on interactive Vehicle2X applications as well as multiparty- and multimodal-interaction in an automotive context. In this area he is working on his PhD entitled  "Beyond the "Push"-Paradigm: Enhanced Forms of Information Access and Novel Application Areas for Vehicle2X-Communication Networks". In the projects CARMINA an SIM-TD he is involved in HMI development and multimodal dialogue systems. Sandro studied Computer Science with minor subject computational linguistics at Saarland University.

Dipl.-Inform. Christoph Endres (researcher)

christoph_endresChristoph Endres joined the Automotive group in January 2010. His PhD topic is "Instrumented Environment Car: Multimodal Fission and Media Allocation with Explicit Priority Management". Christoph studied computer science at the Saarland University. He received his diploma degree in 1999 for his thesis "Personal Picture Finder - a softbot for the world wide web". He worked at DFKI Wahlsters chair in numerous projects in the area of natural language search engines, P2P networks, computer game playing and ubiquitous computing.
From 2001 until 2003 he lived in the United States and became a Sun Certified Java Professional (SCJP and SCJD).
He currently works as a full time researcher at DFKI.

Catrin Endres (group assistance)
1Group assistant Catrin Endres joined DFKI Automotive group in April 2010. Since June 2010, she is also affiliated to the Intel Visual Computing Institute at University of the Saarland. Previously, she worked at DFKI as secretary and receptionist. Former jobs also include editorial office of a local TV news show at SR (Saarländischer Rundfunk) and catering. Catrin is office clerk by training and currently studying Psychology at FernUniversität Hagen.






 
Dipl. Psych. Angela Mahr (researcher)

IMG_0085_k_klein Since June 2009 Angela Mahr is a full-time member of the Automotive Group and responsible for usability testing and evaluation. Her research area is "User-Centric Multimodality in the Car". Her PhD topic in Psychology is "Making Use of Crossmodal Perception: Efficient Information Presentation and Performance Enhancement for Drivers with the Help of Semanticons", which is seen as part of her DFKI research area.

 

From 2003 to 2009 she studied Psychology at Saarland University with main focus on cognitive psychology and research methods.

Dipl.-Inform. Tim Schwartz (Researcher M2CI Cluster of Excellence)

Tim100x80 Being a member of the Cluster of Excellence - Multimodal Computing & Interaction at the University of the Saarland, Dipl.-Inform. Tim Schwartz joined the DFKI automotive group in January 2009 as an associate member. His PhD topic is "The Always Best Positioned Paradigm: Fusion of Heterogeneous Sources for Indoor and Outdoor Positioning of Nomadic Devices". Tim is consulting the group in the project SIM-TD (Secure Intelligent Mobility Testfield Germany), where the DFKI team is responsible for the HMI (Human Machine Interaction).

M.Sc. Rafael Math (researcher)
rafael80x100Rafael Math joined the Automotive group as a full-time member in April 2010 and is responsible for the development and maintenance of a 3D driving simulator. This simulator is the foundation of driver reaction and distraction tests which are integral components of the projects CARMINA and SIM-TD. His research interests are 3D Computer Graphics, Ubiquitous Computing, User Modeling and Human Computer Interaction.
From 2004 to 2009 Rafael studied computer science at the Saarland University.
